Since 1979 we have served surfers throughout THE SURFING MARKET with confidence and we're proud of our accomplishments and goals. As we approach our 20th anniversary we would like to let you know who we are and to also let you know that we too are serious about SURFING. We are committed to QUALITY,function, CUSTOMER SATISFACTION,and promoting the SURFING LIFESTYLE in a positive manner to the public at large. Although we feel that THE ENVIRONMENT is important we also strongly feel that free unrestricted access to the worlds waves is of paramount importance. Our company has supported and worked for these ideals ever since its inception. Only with our "extended family" of supporters, customers,business associates,and "AUTHORIZED DEALERS" have we enjoyed success in leading others in the pursuits of preserving,establishing,and creating coalitions to help protect the environment as well as access areas that could have affected surfers and citizens alike in a negative way.

Collectively,surfers have produced positive results and continue to be a motivating force in the active watersports industry. From establishing in 1980 a pro-active environmental organization called the ( ISS ) INTERNATIONAL SHORE SOCIETY which spearheaded the "SAVE THE LIGHT" program to educate the public about the fate of the much treasured National Landmark - THE CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE. A large cross section of support motivated others to seek solutions. Then in 1988-1990 we connected with Mr. Tom Pratte of the Surfrider Foundation and invited him to visit with us in the Va./ N.C. areas to discuss the possibility of opening an East Coast Chapter or possibly an East Coast Headquarters somewhere near the Mid-Atlantic region of the Eastern Seaboard. Tom visited on several occassions and finally encouraged the National Headquarters to take action.

In 1991 the first chapter was established in Va. Beach,Virginia and shortly thereafter the Outer Banks followed and with much commitment has accomplished success through many positve programs and a willing and motivated volunteer base. I would like to add that I know for a fact that Tom would have been pleased. He agreed wholeheartedly with us that the Outer Banks of all places needed a group such as Surfrider. Positive programs that produce results are always worth supporting. Educating others and ourselves about protecting our lifestyle is always a win-win situation for our industry and communities involved. We continued motivating surfers for several years and today with the help of many people Surfrider enjoys a functioning organization that exists throughout the world with chapters including most of the East Coast.

From there my son (COREY) and I met another surfer (Mr. Bryan Peterson) in 1992 and were intrigued with his dream. That being to captain a small 24 foot Zodiac boat around the world using an alternative fuel source (soybean oil). A two year voyage ending in 1994 was completed in Norfolk,Virginia with a speech held at Old Dominion University. We were the East Coast Reps for "The Sunrider Expedition" and had arranged for landing sites and educational speeches to be made throughout the East Coast. The trip was a success and another surfer made positive impacts that will have a lasting impact on others for years to come. That would lead to another project that would become most dearest to my heart.

In 1996 Surfrider Outer Banks Chapter created the Surfrider Outer Banks Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of fallen surfers. In the summer of 1996 the 1st EVER LONGBOARD INVITATIONAL "Expression Session" was held to seed the necessary funds needed to establish such a fund for the future. Today the "Original" Expression Session is no longer associated with Surfrider but continues in its original spirit to remember those who have lost loved ones and to help charities that are serving the community. It is an event truly put on "by the community for the community". We will continue to encourage surfers to support all events that uplift surfers and their lifestyles.
